CONCURSO ARTISTA EMERGENTE


Guidelines for 2011 Emerging Artist Award

PURPOSE OF AWARDThe purpose of the Emerging Artist Award (EAA)
 is to acknowledge promise, innovation and individuality in the work of
emerging jewelers and to advance the career of a promising artist.

AMOUNT OF AWARD An unrestricted cash award of $5,000 will be given each year.
  • The winning artist is expected to travel to SOFA New York or to
  •  COLLECT to attend award presentation.


ENTRY CRITERIA Applicants must meet the following criteria:
  • Maker of wearable art jewelry
  • Must have completed academic/professional training and be out of school
  •  with date of graduation at least one year 
  • from date of submission of the EAA application; self-taught artists may apply.
  • Work submitted must have been unsupervised; work from BFA/MFA shows may 
  • NOT be submitted
  • Artists who have received honorable mentions in past years may apply if they
  •  remain eligible
APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS AND INSTRUCTIONS
The following must be submitted via the Café web site  (www.callforentry.org):
  • Current resume (One page)
  • Artist statement relating to the work submitted, approximately 200 words
  • A maximum of ten digital images showing 6-7  pieces of work 
  • One of the images must show a piece being worn
  • One of the images must show the back of a piece
  • Each image must provide
    1. Name of artist
    2. Title of piece
    3. Dimensions
    4. Year Produced
    5. Materials
Applications must be received by midnight September 30th. The following 
must be included on the application:
  • If had  solo exhibition in commercial gallery or museum (Y/N
  • Date completed professional training ([BA, MFA or self-taught] (Mo/Yr graduated)
  • Represented by gallery (Y/N); if yes, name of gallery
  • How learned of this competition (e.g. instructor, posting at school, 
  • curator, gallerist, SNAG News, 
  • magazine [specify], collector, former award winner)
Images (except for those of back of piece and the piece being worn), 
must be high-resolution (300 dpi or higher TIFF file)
 and immediately available to the AJF to be used in print media.
JURORS
The jury will consist of three persons, two of whom must be members of AJF,
 and could include the following to achieve
balance and diversity of viewpoint/opinion:
  • 1 curator
  • 1 artist (previous year’s winner, unless unable to serve)
  • 1 collector
JUDGINGJury review will take place in October/November.  Work will be 
judged on originality, depth of concept,
continuity of design and quality of craftsmanship. 
There will be two rounds of review; those scoring highest in the first round of 
individual review by each juror will
be moved to the second round for group jury review. 
Jurors may request an optional third round review of interviews with applicants
AWARD NOTIFICATION 
The winning artist will be immediately notified by telephone and email.
All applicants will be informed by email after the winning artist is notified. 
The winning entry will be announced in the AJF Newsletter and on the AJF 
website in December
POST-AWARD PROMOTION
The winning artist will be invited to deliver a brief presentation at SOFA
 New York where their work will be
featured prominently by an AJF member gallery.
